1. What are cookies?
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They help sites remember preferences, keep you signed in, and understand how pages are used. Similar technologies include local storage and session storage.
2. How we use cookies
BusinessNZ uses cookies and local storage for:
- Essential functionality — remembering essential site preferences in your browser.
- Search convenience — storing recent search queries in your browser so you can pick them up again quickly.
- Analytics — understanding aggregate traffic patterns to improve the directory (when analytics tools are enabled).
3. Cookies we set
| Name | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| businessnz-theme | Stores light/dark theme preference | Persistent |
| businessnz:recent-searches | Stores your recent search queries locally | Persistent |
4. Managing cookies
You can control cookies through your browser settings — including blocking or deleting them. Blocking essential cookies may affect theme preference and recent search features. Most browsers also offer a “Do Not Track” signal; we do not currently respond to DNT signals.
5. Third-party cookies
Some embedded content or analytics providers may set their own cookies. We aim to use only providers that meet reasonable privacy standards. Third-party cookies are governed by those providers' policies.
6. More information
For how we handle personal information more broadly, see our Privacy policy. Questions can be sent to support@businessnz.com.
